2021 was Mkono’s most impactful year. Amidst the pandemic, while lending institutions sharply reduced their activities, we doubled down in 2021, providing loans to small and medium businesses, as well as mentorship sessions. At the same time, we expanded our community of entrepreneurs, launched operations initiatives, and invested time in growing our global team of volunteers.

This past year was a plentiful one for all of us, full of surprises and challenges. In 2021, Mkono welcomed new members to the team, unveiled a refreshed logo, celebrated our 2nd anniversary, and organized one of our most important fundraising events. It was also a year of volunteer bonding activities, conversations with Allies, and interviews with Mkono entrepreneurs. It is clear that community was a major theme here at Mkono.

Last September, Mkono took part of GlobalGiving’s Accelerator’s Program. In 3 weeks, we aimed to raise $10K USD. We’re excited to share that the campaign totaled $15K USD in donations, over 150% of our initial goal!
