Fundraiser Alert! Mkono Participates in GlobalGiving Accelerator's Program

We're starting September with some good news. Mkono has been accepted to GlobalGiving's accelerator program. And as part of this program, we need to raise at least $5,000 USD from Sept. 13 to Sept. 30 (but our goal is $10,000 USD!). Curious as to what this specifically entails? Read on.

A background on GlobalGiving

GlobalGiving is the first and largest global crowdfunding community for nonprofits. Their mission is to accelerate community-led change by connecting the public and their network of donors to nonprofits around the world. In brief, what makes them especially interesting for non-profits like Mkono are these two things : 

1. Accessibility : People from anywhere in the world can navigate their platform, view local projects and easily donate to nonprofits! 
2. Support : Non-profit partners have access to various tools and training to become more effective. 

And so, at Mkono, we believe that joining the GlobalGiving community as permanent partners will allow us to accelerate our growth and maximize our impact. But how can this happen? This is where we need your help.

The Accelerator program

In order to become permanent partners with GlobalGiving, we need to complete their Accelerator program, a three-week crowdfunding campaign with the goal of raising at least $5,000 USD from 40 unique donors. This means from Sept. 13 to Sept. 30, we will be launching a fundraising campaign where you and anybody you know can donate!

Now you may wonder, does this mean the donations will go to GlobalGiving? Actually, your donations will help Mkono support 160 young entrepreneurs in Kenya over the next 5 years. With the money raised, we will be able to extend our services for more entrepreneurs across Kenya, providing them with loans and mentorship sessions to help them grow their business. How to donate and support us

As of Sept. 13, you will be able to access our project page on GlobalGiving. On this page, you will also have access to Mkono resources such as impact reports, entrepreneur testimonials and details on what we do!

If you are not able to donate, don't worry. You can help us spread the word by sharing our page or this blog article on social media to your friends, family and members of your community.

Thanks to donations and support from people like you, since our start, we have been able to support 45 entrepreneurs, extend $30,000 CAD in loans and organize 72 mentorship sessions led by Allies from over 9 different countries, all while maintaining a 88% repayment rate.
